An extremely handsome and intelligent Lieutenant with a bright future in the US Navy.

US Marine Luther Billis (Baritone, comic role)

A lovable character who provides his fellow marines with much-needed comic relief. Does not respect authority. Enterprising, stubborn. Adores Nellie.

Bloody Mary (Haunting Mezzo, low G to high F, Asian, comedic)

Shrewd native merchant who makes a fortune off the sailors. Mother of Liat.

Liat (Non-singing, Asian, 16-20)

A beautiful Polynesian girl who steals the heart of Joe Cable. Bloody Mary's daughter.
[Mrs. Denler hinted that Liat will probably sing "happy talk" with bloody mary, and will sing harmony with cable during "younger than springtime"]
